Just so it is clear, the villain looks exactly like the MC. I know you said you don't like rape but I suggest you read from 13.1 to 14.2 to see the most savage revenge I've ever seen in manga. So this is his revenge, and it is fucking savage. I'll give a little back story, but put it in hidden spoiler, so that it makes sense: The current villain of this part is trying to hunt down the main character, to do so he went to the MCs home village and basically killed and raped this girl the MC was friends with from childhood. Start reading from chapter 13.1 to the end of chapter 14.2, that gives a bit of context to the situation. The manga hasn't got many chapters so reading it isn't that difficult.

You can watch it alone without watching the much, much more inferior NGNL (12 episodes), but if you want to get the full experience, you should watch the much, much more inferior NGNL (because it focused more on comedy and fanservice).
